Malaika Franks is currently getting her BFA in industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her passion in design is centered around how it can be used to create radical sustainable change in people’s lives through empowering communities, changing perceptions and levelling ability and accessibility gaps. It is this passion that has brought her to intern at IHCD for the past two summers. She compliments her design focus with a strong emphasis on community and political involvement, working with the Rohingya refugee community and ‘Stop Human Trafficking Campaign’ throughout her secondary education in Malaysia and currently collaborating with several community groups in Providence. Her other interests include traveling to broaden her understanding of the world around her, creative and personal expression through her art, long distanced running and cooking to satisfy her love of food.
