New housing publications from the Center for Excellence in Universal Design

The Center for Excellence in Universal Design part of the National Disability Authority of Ireland produced two new housing publications: "Universal Design Guidelines for Homes in Ireland", and "Universal Design Guidelines,  Dementia Friendly Dwellings for People with Dementia, their Families and Carers".

A groundbreaking, chemically safe tiny mobile house for an environmentally ill arts activist.

Aurora Levins Morales, writer and poet, has Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, which means she cannot live in conventional houses because they contain toxic chemicals that make her ill.  She has spent more than five years designing a 32 foot, non-toxic, sustainable house on wheels inspired by the work Leslie Lawrence and Justin Taylor have designed other kinds of non-toxic, mobile houses. Aurora needs help funding her new home and has started an Indiegogo page.

The 8th International Conference on Inclusive Design, organised by the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Arts.

The conference theme for 2015 is Disruptive Ideas in Inclusive Design.

Ever since the international inclusive design community first came together around the needs of older and disabled people for the inaugural Include conference in 2001, a series of disruptions have moved the tectonic plates under the field.

IAUD Awards: 2015 Call for Entries, 2014 Awards Citations

2015 Call for Entries

The application for submitting entries for the 2015 IAUD awards are now open. All corporations, organizations, individuals and groups, inside and outside Japan, that are interested in "innovative UD activities and proposals for achieving a sustainable, harmonious society through the promotion of new and improved concepts in town development, products, and systems" are eligible to apply. Specific businesses, teams and other sub-units of corporations and organizations are also eligible.
