IHCD will host "The Symposium on Socially Sustainable Design: Boston Builds on Inclusive London 2012."

Date:
Jul 17, 2015

This project is a day-long inclusive cities symposium within Architecture Boston Expo (ABX) and a complementary 24-hour Design Challenge for design students and young practitioners focused on the design of "Olympic Boulevard." London's leadership made the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games a catalyst for creating an international model of an inclusive city across the diversity of ability, age, and culture. With Boston as the likely US candidate competing for the 2024 Olympics, London offers a precedent for delivering a legacy of cutting-edge inclusive design. Five Inclusive London design leaders will present at the symposium on November 18th to share their experience and strategies and also to serve as jurors for the 24-Hour Olympic Boulevard Design Challenge.

Confirmed London leaders are:

  • Julie Fleck, OBE, Principal Access Advisor at the Greater London Authority
  • Dr. David Bonnett, RIBA FRSA, heads one of the leading access consultancy practices in the UK
  • Margaret Hickish, Principal Access Officer at the Olympic Delivery Authority, the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  • Rama Gheerawo, Deputy Director of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design and the RCA Reader in Inclusive Design.
  • Manisha Patel, ARB, a director at PRP Architects, has been a lead designer in residential design
