The Technology Bill of Rights for the Blind Act of 2010 was introduced on January 27, 2010 and mandates minimum non-visual access standards for all electronic devices. HR 4533 would mandate a minimal standard of accessibility for all consumer electronics devices, such as televisions, home stereo systems, appliances and kiosks.




Congresswoman Janice Schakowsky (D-IL) introduced the bill and said, "The importance of access to technology in today's society cannot be overstated. In many cases, a person's livelihood depends upon the ability to use technology," said Representative Schakowsky. "This bill will allow people who are blind or have low vision to compete on a level playing field with their sighted peers and remain productive members of society.
