Industrial Designer
The VELCRO Companies is currently seeking an Industrial Product Designer to work on the conceptualization and development of new products. This person will be responsible for generating innovative design concepts, modifying current products as needed and meeting the needs of our consumer targets and business objectives. This role requires cross-functional interaction with Marketing, Engineering, and the external Design and Supplier community.   This is a newly created and dynamic position that requires a high level of detail while working within deadlines and changing priorities. 
  • Create the Velcro ® Brand product DNA per category and product line
  • Safeguard the Velcro ® Brand overall design DNA/Maintain a consistent brand language
  • Manage outside design agencies and resources
  • Participate in marketing research
  • Sketch concepts for brainstorming activities as well as presentations
  • Produce detailed drawings and specifications using dedicated computer software
  • Manage the creation and/or making of prototypes and samples
  • Test design concepts by computerized modelling or physical hands-on testing of models
  • Identify the suitability and availability of materials
  • Travel to production facilities and evaluate the feasibility of production
  • Create presentations to management and/or customers
  • Explore new market opportunities
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in product design and concept development
  • Having worked in global organizations and small teams, specifically in a consumer goods environment
  • Creative problem solving within restrictions, challenging current technologies / manufacturing capabilities
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once, last minute requests and quick turnarounds with a positive attitude
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be highly collaborative
  • Understand the product development cycle and demonstrate knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Must show experience in ideation, 2D/3D rendering, form and surface development with a strong working knowledge of relevant CAD systems (e.g. Alias, Rhino, Solid Works, or Freeform) and rendering software (e.g. KeyShot or Move).
  • Interest in the latest products, technology and trends in a wide variety of consumer spaces
  • BS, BA BFA, MFA in Industrial Design with a portfolio that demonstrates successful product launches (Desired years of experience: 5-10 yrs in consumer goods)
  • An outstanding portfolio that underpins your achievements and personal drive
  • Due to the international nature of our organization, an excellent level of both spoken and written English is essential
