Neils Diffrient, inventor of human factors and designer of great human centered products, dies. "Why design if it doesn't change the human condition?"

Niels Diffrient, an industrial designer who combined elegance and efficiency in everyday objects, including telephones, cameras, airplane interiors and, late in his life, office chairs that adjusted themselves to whoever sat in them, died on June 8 at his home in Ridgefield, Conn. He was 84.
