Description
Every forty-one minutes another person is added to the list of more than 250,000 Americans living with spinal cord injuries. Many of these injuries will likely leave the person confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his or her life. These are just ordinary people living ordinary lives and in one split second their lives are changed forever.
Picture yourself as a typical healthy and active teenager one minute, and a minute later being confined to a bed or wheelchair for the rest of your life. Or imagine you are a parent who has just been told by a doctor that your son or daughter will never walk again. Close your eyes and take five minutes to imagine what the rest of your life would be like.
Bob Prondzinski and his parents didn't have to imagine it. They lived it. Another Fine Mess You've Gotten Us Into: The Life and Adventures of a Quad takes you through the author's one-of-a-kind emotional experience as he journeys through more than forty years of life as a quadriplegic caused by a severe spinal cord injury. If you were inspired by well-known actor Christopher Reeve's struggles as a quadriplegic, you'll be able to go behind the scenes as Bob explains in detail what it physically and emotionally feels like to be one. This is not a journey of suffering and sorrow but one of hope and accomplishment, with experiences that can benefit the lives of all readers.
Bob started writing this book because of all the requests he had from his friends to document some of the very unique (mostly humorous) situations he got them into over the years. Yet, in the writing of it, the book grew into much more than the 27 anecdotes he intended to detail. It turned into a wonderful adventure through life that is truly most unusual and allows the reader to experience all of the emotions, setbacks, and triumphs of someone living with a serious injury. Although Bob frames the content by sharing some of his journey from his initial accident to getting a job, and living independently - and even touches on his sex life as a quad - the primary focus is on something much more important to him: finding the humor in his misadventures and living to the tell the story to others. You're welcome to come along on some of his most memorable adventures, including: It's Faster By Plane. Wrong! Condoms for Everyone Footballs and Footfalls Puerto Rico Here I Come! Romance at the Playboy Club Reeb Traf Space Shuttle Police ...and more! The book also includes an addendum that outlines many of the technologies, products and equipment Bob uses to make his life easier in the hopes that it may help others bypass a lot of trial and error if they have similar needs. At the time of this writing, more than 29,000 U.S. soldiers have been wounded in Iraq since 2003. They suffer from all kinds of injuries, including spinal injuries and amputations. "If this book can help just one person or family through some of their questions and concerns about the future, then it will have been worth the writing."
