Renowned architect Marsha Maytum, co-founder of Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects (LMSA), passed away on February 10 at the age of 69 after bravely battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). While celebrated for her groundbreaking work in green design, Maytum's legacy extends far beyond her architectural achievements.

As a leader of LMSA, Maytum pioneered "mission-driven design," creating impactful projects that addressed social equity and environmental sustainability. The firm received accolades, including the prestigious 2017 Architecture Firm Award from the AIA. Maytum's integration of preservation and green design strategies earned her a place in the AIA College of Fellows in 2001.

Notably, Maytum championed inclusive design, exemplified by her innovative solution for the Sweetwater Spectrum community—a replicable residential model for individuals on the autism spectrum. Her leadership also reached beyond projects, as seen in her advocacy for urgent climate action within the architecture profession.

Maytum's optimism, vision, and commitment to positive change will be deeply missed. Her influence, both in architectural innovation and inclusive design advocacy, leaves an indelible mark on the profession. May she inspire future generations to continue pushing boundaries and creating a more inclusive and sustainable environments.
