"Julia and the amazing, inspirational, fearless contribution she made, touched the professional and personal lives of so many people.  (Her family) should be very proud of her legacy. Her contribution was enormous. It was also unique. Julia was a very special person. Her work will live on.

As Senior Research Fellow in the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design for 11 years from 2000 to 2011, and then as a Visiting Fellow from Japan, Julia and her Challenge Workshop programme really put inclusive design on the map and encouraged professional designers to engage with its philosophy. That was an incredible building block for the centre to put in place. Julia’s energy, insight and fighting spirit made it happen.

She was a citizen of the world and its best design activist."
