Shedd Aquarium, a beloved Chicago institution, announced details this month about proposed improvements to its building and site on the shore of Lake Michigan. This effort will be developed within the aquarium's planned four-year, onsite transformation and restoration project. With accessibility and inclusion as a major goal of this exterior project, Shedd will augment the current accessible entrance to become a primary point of entry that will welcome all visitors.
"Shedd Aquarium is prioritizing accessibility as a key component in this design and vision and is incorporating key accessibility principles in updating the current historic layout and entrance," said Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities Commissioner Rachel Arfa. "This new and improved entrance will allow more people of all ages and all types of disabilities to enjoy this world-class Chicago institution for generations to come."
IHCD is serving as Shedd's accessibility consultant on the project. To learn more about the inclusive renovations in store for the aquarium, click the link below to view the full press release.
